Wilko has appointed a former Post Office executive as its new retail director.

Amanda Jones currently holds the position of retail and franchise network director at the Post Office and will join Wilko this July.

She has previously held senior leadership roles at John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, and worked in various positions at Waitrose, including head of development and head of food and home.

Wilko chief executive Jerome Saint-Marc said: “With a passion for products, stores and customers, alongside a high level of enthusiasm to drive transformational change, I have every confidence that Amanda will bring a fantastic set of skills to lead our retail team as we continue to develop our transformation and omnichannel journey as we power to 2030.”

Jones said: “I’m delighted to be joining Wilko at this exciting time in its transformation journey and I very much look forward to leading the retail team.”

Earlier this year, planning to close 15 stores as leases come to an end and favourable terms cannot be agreed, putting hundreds of jobs on the line.

The high street chain said the store closures would not affect any planned new openings or its ongoing stores relocation programme.
