Hardware store Wickes has been praised by the public for its Brighton Pride message, urging for a ban in conversion therapy and standing by the Trans community.

Brighton Pride returned this weekend after a two-year hiatus following Covid cancellations.

However, many attendees were surprised by Wickes’ advert. Taking to social media, people express their support for the retailer as it shows solidarity to the community.

One user said: “I will say, if corporates are going to be at pride, it’s good to see actual bold messaging rather than “love is nice“.

Another user said that they “did not think the Trans ally of the season would be Wickes.”

“Wickes doing corporate pride absolutely correctly. We love to see it,” another user said.

Seems that Wickes have won Twitter today!! Well done to whoever made the decision to do pride right!!”

A Wickes employee tweeted, the move made her “proud”.

“I know there’s a lot of debate over whether companies belong at pride but we have a really strong, colleague-led LGBT+ network who organise all this and everyone who attends goes because they genuinely care and support the community,” she said.

However, Wickes responded by saying how proud it was to take part in Brighton Pride to celebrate the LGBTQ+ celebration’s 30th anniversary.

The retailer added how prouder it was of its “LGBTQ+ network who work hard every day to make sure everyone can feel at home at Wickes.”
