Amazon to ‘pause’ deliveries during Queen’s funeral

// Amazon confirms it will pause deliveries to customers to pay respects for Queen’s funeral on September 19
// Amazon UK staff in operations departments such as warehouses and delivery stations will be able to take additional leave for part of the day

Amazon deliveries to customers will be halted as the online giant pays its respects during the Queen’s funeral on September 19.

Amazon UK colleagues in operations departments such as warehouses and delivery stations will be able to take additional leave for part of the day, or the full day, in order to watch the funeral.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Amazon will be observing the bank holiday with all UK employees being offered additional holiday to allow them to pay their respects,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

The retail giant has left the option open for employees to also continue to work and take an additional day’s leave another time if they choose.

While Amazon has opted to stop operations for the duration of the funeral only, other online retailers have closed for the entire day.

Ocado said all warehouses and fulfilment centres will be closed and deliveries will be cancelled on the day and rescheduled, a move that is being mirrored by Tesco and Asda.

However, Asos will operate its usual bank holiday plan.
