Tesco and Pret a Manger have ended their in-store concession partnership after just over a year.

The Big Four supermarket teamed up with the coffee chain in May 2021 as part of a trial to broaden Pret’s appeal.

The first concession launched in June at the Tesco superstore in Kensington, West London, with another four expected to follow in the summer.

However, only one more of the four planned shop-in-shops was ever opened.

Despite the end of the partnership, Pret’s products are still being sold in Tesco competitor’s supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Waitrose and online grocer Ocado.

In July, Pret a Manger recorded strong sales as it plans to double the business over the next five years.

Sales rose by a colossal 230% year-on-year to £357.8 million in the first half, up 260% compared to 2020.

In May, Pret recorded revenues surpassing pre-pandemic levels in 2019, driven by regional growth.
