Aldi’s website has seen over 70,000 shoppers queue online to get their hands on its beloved Kevin the Carrot toys.

By 10am, several versions of the soft toys had already sold out online amid high demand for merchandise.

Among those sold out are a set including Kevin and his carrot girlfriend Katie and Christmas tree decorations of the football/food-themed characters ‘Messy’, ‘Ronaldi’ and ‘Marrowdona’.

Aldi said its website has experienced “extremely high” demand for the soft toys.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “The demand for our Kevin the Carrot soft toys was extremely high and, as a result, customers were held in a queue to enter the website. This was to improve the customer experience on our website and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

One shopper tweeted: “I queue up for new consoles and games, my wife queues up at 5.30am for Kevin the Carrot from Aldi.”

Another posted a picture of his haul after tweeting he was queueing outside a store at 07.15am.

The supermarket chain‘s new Kevin and Family Christmas collection of plush toys officially went live this morning both in stores and online.

Thousands of shoppers were placed in a virtual queue.

Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot Christmas ad is one of the most popular released this year, alongside John Lewis’ ad, which shines a light on fostering children, and Asda’s Buddy The Elf effort.
