Matalan’s outgoing interim boss Nigel Oddy is set to take up a new role at privately owned sports goods retailer American Golf.

Oddy will depart from Matalan after a six-month stint as its interim CEO, and will replace Gary Favell in his new role, Sky News reported.

American Golf is owned by Endless, the private equity firm which bought it five years ago.

American Golf trades from just under 100 stores across Britain and operates a number of 9-hole and 18-hoe golf courses, as well as family-focused adventure golf facilities.

The chain sells brands including Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist and Wilson.

At Matalan, Oddy is being replaced by former Co-op food chief Jo Whitfield who was touted as the frontrunner for the CEO role last month.

Whitfield said she would lead the business through its “next exciting phase of growth and modernisation”.
