eBay hires pre-loved director as it makes acquisition

eBay has named renowned fashion stylist and pre-loved fashion advocate, Amy Bannerman, as its in-house pre-loved style director.

With over 20 years of experience buying and selling on the online marketplace giant, eBay said Bannerman “will apply her specialist experience in pre-loved fashion to this new position”.

Banners and will take on a range of new responsibilities within the fashion arm of eBay’s business, including styling and sourcing for fashion-related campaigns, styling for key talent that work with eBay, providing on-site merchandising consultations and acting as a fashion spokesperson for the brand.

Alongside the Love Island partnership, which the marketplace re-signed for the summer season, Bannerman “will play a key role” in eBay’s partnership with Vogue ‘Forces For Change’ which celebrates sustainability, diversity and changemakers.

As part of her role, she will be working with the British Vogue team to find pre-loved gems on eBay for upcoming activity, as well as giving consumers insight into how to tap into trends through vintage and pre-loved on eBay.

The marketplace has also signed a deal to acquire authentication and digital ID firm Certilogo to boost its pre-loved fashion business.

The acquisition, which allows customers to make more sustainable choices, is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be completed in the third quarter.

The software uses technology to encourage brands and designers to manage the lifecycle of their garments, as well as confirm authenticity.

Bannerman said: “I’m so happy to start this new role, it has been incredible working with eBay to style the Islanders for the past couple seasons and I’m so proud of how much we have already changed pre-loved perceptions. I’m excited to work even more closely with the eBay team to inspire a more conscious way of shopping.”

eBay Global general manager of fashion Kirsty Keoghan said: “We’re thrilled to officially welcome Amy into the eBay team, she has already been instrumental to eBay’s impact in the pre-loved fashion movement, so we can’t wait to build on this relationship and see what further results we can achieve together.“
