Asos hires ex-Nike and VF sustainability supremo to its board

// Asos has appointed Anna Maria Rugarli as its new non-executive director and chair of the ESG Committee
// Rugarli currently serves as a board member at Prada Group and Japan Tobacco International

Asos has appointed ex-Nike and VF Corporation ESG specialist Anna Maria Rugarli to its board.

Rugarli, who currently serves as a board member at Prada Group, will chair the fast fashion retailer’s of the ESG Committee.

The sustainability and CSR expert brings more than twenty years of experience working with leaders across global clothing.

She spent 11 years at Vans and The North Face owner VF Corporation, where she was sustainability and responsibility director then circular economy lead, and was previously senior corporate social responsibilty manager at Nike.

Asos chairman Jørgen Lindemann said: “Anna Maria joins us with a wealth of ESG experience from some of the biggest brands in global apparel. The board will greatly benefit from her expertise and we look forward to working closely with her.”

The news comes after the business returned to profitability earlier this month, as Frasers upped its stake in the company to over 10%.

The fashion giant said its adjusted earnings before interest and tax rose by more than £20m on year in the three months ended May 31.

Back in April, Asos strengthened its board by hiring execs from Google and Bimba y Lola – Natasja Laheij and Jose Manuel Martinéz Gutiérrez.
