Majestic Wine grants staff extra time off over Christmas and New Year

Majestic Wine has given its staff additional time off over the Christmas and New Year period, as a thank you for the “incredible efforts” of its team in 2023.

The retailer confirmed it would close all 208 of its stores across England, Scotland and Wales for an extra day on 2nd January 2024.

The move marks the second time in the past three years that the business has closed its shops on 2nd January.

Staff working in the company’s Watford support centre, Hemel Hempstead distribution centre, and in field-based roles have also been given all three days off, meaning all of Majestic’s 1,600 workers will enjoy the extra holiday.

Majestic will also remain closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Majestic Wine CEO John Colley said: “As a business, we know how important it is to spend quality time with family and friends, especially during the festive season.

“Rewarding our colleagues with these days off is the right thing to do to allow everyone to make the most of the Christmas break, and come back to work fully refreshed in the New Year.”

The move comes under Majestic’s ongoing focus on the health, wellbeing, learning and
development of its people, according to the retailer.

In September, the business revealed plans to hire 200 new workers ahead of its “biggest Christmas ever” with positions including drivers, sales assistants, assistant managers and trainee managers.
