Lidl boosts staff pay for third time in 12 months

Lidl is investing over £2.5m to boost staff pay for the third time in 12 months.

Hourly paid shop workers in London will see their rates increase from £13.55 to £13.65, while store staff elsewhere will see minimum pay increase from £12 to £12.40.

The latest move pushes Lidl’s total investment into staff pay to nearly £50m, following a £37m investment in March and £8m last September.

The discounter’s new base rates, effective 1 June, puts it on par with fellow discount rival Aldi’s minimum hourly pay.

Lidl GB chief executive Ryan McDonnell said: “As we continue to expand, we are welcoming more customers and attracting more colleagues into the business every day.

“It’s absolutely right, therefore, that we continue to offer industry-leading pay”.

The retailer’s chief human resources officer Stephanie Rogers added: “The critical role that our colleagues play in driving our growth is always front of mind for us, which is why we’re committed to offering extremely competitive pay alongside a raft of other benefits.

“We want to continue to support and strengthen the teams that run our stores and warehouses every day, whilst attracting the best new talent. This latest investment helps us to do just that”.
