TGJones’ owner Modella Capital is considering a potential sale of the freehold for the retailer’s Swindon head office and distribution centre, as the business assesses its long-term property strategy.
The freehold on the Greenbridge Road site, according to Retail Week, which TGJones inherited after buying the brand for £76m in the summer, is being reviewed as part of a wider conversation about the future of the company’s operational footprint.
According to a source who joined a call with landlords and property agents last week, TGJones chief executive Sean Toal raised the possibility of relocating both the head office and the distribution centre to another site within Swindon.
During the call, Toal said the retailer was exploring how it might “realise the value” tied up in the property, which the source suggested could include a direct sale or a sale-and-leaseback arrangement.
It is understood Toal did not set out a specific route but confirmed the options were being worked through internally.
A TGJones spokesperson said: “While TGJones owns the freehold to the Greenbridge site, we currently have no immediate plans to relocate either our support centre or the distribution centre.”
The group also highlighted the role of other Modella Capital brands within that plan, with a target of introducing more than 250 Hobbycraft shop-in-shops and a similar number of Toys ’R’ Us concessions across the TGJones estate by the end of the 2027 financial year.
Alongside this, TGJones is aiming to open around 180 Post Office branches inside stores, positioning them as key drivers of footfall in areas lacking access to postal or banking services.
