Asda Opticians has unveiled a £2.5m investment programme and two senior leadership appointments as part of its 2026 strategy.

The investment, which was revealed at the opticians’ annual conference this month, will support the continued development of the supermarket’s optical estate, enhance clinical services, and strengthen staff training and progression opportunities across the business.

Key elements of the investment include refitting 18 optical units, upgrades to diagnostic equipment, a new suite of technical, leadership and personal development training, and continued development of its level 6 dispensing optician apprenticeship.

Alongside the investment, the business has promoted Joe Huntford as its new head of optical, following three years within Asda’s field operations team.

Peena Govind has also been appointed as the company’s superintendent optometrist, following 18 months serving as deputy superintendent.

Huntford said: “This year’s event was about looking ahead – celebrating the strengths of our optical community, while setting clear ambitions for the future.

“Asda Opticians has a clear strategy to continue growing, and through our continued investment in our facilities and colleague development, our focus remains on delivering accessible, high quality, great value eye care for every patient who walks through our doors.”
