Frasers Group is set to acquire a majority shareholding in Italian retailer Maxi Sport SpA.
The activewear brand’s owners, Emanuele Sala, Giovanni Sala, Ester Sala and Giulia Sala, will retain a shareholding and stay on the business’s leadership team for its “next chapter of growth,” according to Frasers.
Maxi Sport operates 18 stores across Italy, including six flagship locations.
The business offers “an extensive range of products spanning extreme sports and winter gear,” Frasers said.
Maxi Sport is set to “continue to offer Italian customers its top-tier sporting goods format,” as Frasers “unlocks additional growth opportunities for Sports Direct stores in the region in future”.
Frasers Group CEO Michael Murray said: “Maxi Sport represents the pinnacle of premium sports retail in Italy, and this partnership is the next phase of that journey.”
The move comes after Frasers Group snapped up a majority stake in luxury US fashion house The Webster in October.
In December, it was also reported that Frasers was considering placing a bid for fashion marketplace SilkFred.
