Sainsbury’s Nectar adds Uber and Uber Eats in loyalty expansion beyond retail

GroceryNews

Sainsbury’s Nectar360 has partnered with Uber and Uber Eats, giving Nectar members a new way to redeem points outside traditional retail rewards.

From today, customers can exchange Nectar points for Uber vouchers through the Nectar app, with the credit then added directly to their Uber account for use on rides or food delivery orders.

Redemption values range from 500 points to 4,000 points, equivalent to £2.50 to £20.

The deal marks a first for both businesses. It is Nectar’s first partnership with a ride-hailing platform and gives the loyalty scheme a new use case centred on transport and takeaway, rather than supermarket or retail spend.

For Nectar, the deal broadens the practical appeal of the programme by linking points to everyday services that sit outside its more established grocery and shopping ecosystem.

For Uber, it offers access to one of the UK’s largest loyalty audiences, with more than 24 million members in the Nectar network.

The partnership is the latest sign of loyalty schemes pushing further into lifestyle-led rewards as operators look to make points feel more flexible and relevant to day-to-day behaviour.

Mark Given, Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing and data officer, said the partnership was designed to give customers more ways to use Nectar in everyday life.

Katie Hunter, head of grocery and retail at Uber Eats, said the tie-up would give members greater flexibility in how they spend rewards, whether on transport or meal delivery.
