Tesco has expanded its Aldi Price Match scheme into more than 2,000 Tesco Express stores, marking the biggest extension of the initiative since it launched in 2020.
The move means shoppers using Tesco’s convenience stores will now be able to buy a range of everyday products matched to Aldi prices, alongside existing offers such as Clubcard Prices.
More than 200 products will be included in the Express rollout, although ranges will vary depending on store size and location.
The UK’s largest retailer said items available at launch include Tesco Penne Pasta Quills 500g, two-pint semi-skimmed milk, iceberg lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli and tuna chunks.
Products included in the scheme will carry Tesco’s Aldi Price Match logo on shelf-edge labels.
Tesco said the expansion is designed to give customers better value while maintaining the convenience of local shopping.
“We know that household budgets are again under pressure, but we are committed to keeping the cost of the weekly food shop affordable for Tesco customers,” said Tesco UK chief executive Ashwin Prasad.
“By extending our Aldi Price Match scheme to Express stores we can now give customers the confidence that they can get great prices on a range of everyday products at Tesco, whether that’s in our large stores, online or in more than 2,000 of our local convenience stores.”
The latest update to Tesco’s Aldi Price Match comes after the scheme was first introduced in May 2020 as supermarkets battled for price-conscious shoppers during the pandemic, and then subsequent cost-of-living crisis.
