Pharmacy and health retailer Boots have welcomed former Currys group chief executive Alex Baldock to the brand as its new chief executive officer.

Baldock has held leadership roles for Shop Direct, Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays, before leading Currys since 2018. He oversaw a turnaround of the retailer and steered the business through a challenging period for the electricals market.

Boots stressed that Baldock “brings extensive retail and transformation experience, and a track record of success for colleagues, customers and shareholders alike”.

In a LinkedIn post announcing the news, the heath and beaty retailer said: “He joins Boots at an exciting time as we continue to grow across beauty, health and wellness.”

Baldock added: “I really couldn’t be happier or prouder to be joining Boots. What this business does every day really matters, helping millions of people live longer, healthier and happier lives.

“Boots has a remarkable heritage and extraordinary levels of trust, which we must cherish and continue to earn. I have much to learn, and fast, and am looking forward to getting out across the business and our partners, asking plenty of questions, and listening carefully. I’ve a lot of respect for the achievements of the past – and excitement about the opportunities to build on them.”

Currys revealed in March that Baldock would step down after eight years leading the electricals retailer to take up “a new external position”.
