JD Sports has poached Hobbycraft CEO Dominic Jordan to lead its outdoors business as boss Lee Bagnall steps down.

Bagnall, who joined the Go Outdoors, Blacks and Millets owner in 2013, will remain with the sports giant for a handover period.

His successor Jordan joins from Hobbycraft, departing from the crafts specialist after seven years.

A JD Sports spokesperson told Drapers: “We are delighted to welcome Dominic Jordan as the new chief executive of JD Outdoor. Dominic’s track record in retail transformation, digital strategy and store operations make him an ideal addition to the JD team and a leader for our Outdoors business.

“We thank Lee Bagnall for his significant contributions to JD Outdoor over the last 12 years driving growth and innovation in our Outdoor fascia. Lee will remain with the business to ensure a smooth transition.”

JD Outdoor’s sales rose to more than £550m in its last financial year. It opened a 125,000 sq ft Go Outdoors store in Vangarde Shopping Park last August, making it the largest in its portfolio.
