Aldi has confirmed that all of its UK stores will close on Boxing Day this year, giving its store staff “the chance to enjoy more time with family and friends after the festive rush”.

The discounter will close on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, before welcoming customers back on 27 December.

Its stores will also close on New Year’s Day and reopen on 2 January 2027.

The supermarket’s opening times will vary locally during the days before Christmas, with many stores extending their hours to help customers pick up everything they need for the festive period.

Aldi UK communications director Rachel Geary said: “Christmas is a special time for our customers, but it is also one of the busiest periods of the year for our teams.

“Our colleagues work incredibly hard to ensure customers can pick up everything they need ahead of the big day.

“We never take that effort for granted. Closing our stores on Boxing Day is one way of saying thank you and giving colleagues a proper chance to rest, switch off and spend more time with the people closest to them.”

Aldi is the latest discount retailer to announce Christmas closures, with Home Bargains shuttering 617 UK stores for three days over the festive period as it also looks to recognise the work its team does throughout the year.

The news of these festive closures also follows Aldi recently naming the 25 UK stores that are set to receive upgrades, as part of its £300m investment in its existing estate this year.

The programme includes stores in London, Liverpool, Aberdeen, Sunderland and Bedford, with five locations in Stirling, Paisley, Wollaston, Linlithgow and Lewes also set to be extended.
