Topshop hires new head of merchandising

Topshop has named Johanna Lightfoot as its new head of merchandising.

Lightfoot will be making the move to the high street fashion retailer after a stint as Ralph Lauren’s director of planning, a role she had since 2017.

Prior to her time at Ralph Lauren she worked for seven years at Burberry, starting as the menswear senior planning manager in 2010 before working her way up to women’s apparel planning director.

Lightfoot began her career in 2004 as buyer for Nautica, before taking up a role at DKNY in 2006 as men’s jeans and activewear senior merchandiser.

Her appointment at Topshop marks the Arcadia-owned chain’s first major senior hire in 2018, following a string of various high-profile appointments and reshuffles throughout 2017.

This included the appointment of Paul Price as Topshop/Topman’s new chief executive, replacing Topshop managing director Mary Homer who stepped down in March after 11 years in the role.

Topshop’s last major senior appointment was Anthony Cuthbertson as its new global design director in November last year.
