Asda‘s clothing label George has opened its first store in south-east Asia as the company seeks international expansion.

Launched in Singapore, George is being operated within retailer John Little, which stocks fashion, home and lifestyle products.

Jo Whitfield, retail and international director at George, said that the Singapore market was ‘exciting‘ and added: “We‘re pleased with the performance of our international franchises. When we opened our Malta store earlier this year, demand was so high that over half of stock was sold in the first two weeks.”

The George store is based in the Plaza Singapura, a retail hotspot which also features a Marks & Spencer.

The company said Singapore ‘provides a significant platform for growth‘ with demand from locals and ex-pats steadily increasing.

The brand is set to open further stores in Malta and across the Middle East later this year.
