Burberry has become embroiled in a storm of controversy following a tweet which mixed up two actors wearing the retailer‘s suits to last night‘s BAFTAs.
The luxury fashion brand’s tweet featured a picture of Rogue One star Riz Ahmed, but read: “Celebrating the ‘EEBAFTAs in London this evening, Best Actor in A Supporting Role winner #DevPatel wears a @Burberry custom-made navy tuxedo.”
Twitter subsequently exploded with users pointing out the mistake and dubbing it “racist”.
Burberry corrected the mistake immediately and reposted the tweet with the correct picture.
Burberry told Standard Online: “We have apologised directly to Dev and Riz for the mistake.
“We are incredibly sorry, it should not have hapened.
“We are checking processes to ensure it doesnt happen again.”
