Sports Direct appoints former Nike stalwart to board

Sports Direct has hired former Nike executive David Daly as a non-executive director on its board and audit committee.

A Nike stalwart for almost 30 years, Daly retired from the sportswear retailer and manufacturing giant in 2015. His most recent position there was director of its club and federation business based in Amsterdam, which he held for four years.

Daly will join the Sports Direct board on October 2.

“[Daly] will bring very relevant industry expertise and experience to the board,” Sports Direct chairman Keith Hellawell said.

Daly is also a non-executive director at Fulham FC.

Meanwhile, non-executive director Dave Singleton yesterday informed fellow Sports Direct board members that he would not stand for re-election at the retailer’s next AGM in September.

Singleton has been on the board since 2007.

is set resign from the Sports Direct board after 10 years.

“Dave’s skills and expertise will be greatly missed by the company. I wish him every success in his future endeavours,” Hellawell said.
