The Entertainer nabs Tesco director John Driscoll

Toy retailer The Entertainer has announced that former Tesco director John Driscoll has been appointed as its new commercial director.

Driscoll will leave his role as category director at Tesco, where he has spent over a decade.

Prior to his current role which he has held for nearly four years, he acted as senior buying manager at the grocer for nine years.

He will now be tasked with accelerating growth at The Entertainer as it pushes ahead with both domestic and international growth. In its first half, the retailer opened six new stores and plans are in the works for a further nine.

“We‘re delighted that John has joined the team at this time and are fortunate that someone of his calibre and expertise was available,” The Entertainer managing director Gary Grant said.

“John‘s invaluable expertise and knowledge of the toy & licensing industries will be crucial in driving the growth of The Entertainer and will offer great support for our ambitious expansion plans.”

Earlier this month the retailer posted a six per cent rise in sales for the first half of year, attributing playground crazes like fidget spinners to the boost.
