14.1m footfall peak for Westfield over Christmas period

Westfield saw footfall peak over the Christmas period welcoming more than 14.1 million shoppers to both of its UK centres.

Increasing one per cent on last year, the shopping centre giant saw three major peaks in shopper numbers during the holidays.

One Black Friday weekend 850,000 shoppers visited Westfield Stratford City and Westfield London. During the last weekend before Christmas, dubbed “Super Weekend” over 800,000 visitors were recorded, bringing the pre-Christmas total to 1.85 million.

This was followed by a Boxing Day surge of 320,000, pushing ahead of the lacklustre footfall seen on the high street during the historically busy day.

“Westfield continues to be a leading UK destination by offering the best mix of retail, dining, events, leisure and entertainment,” chief marketing officer Myf Ryan said.

“Over the Christmas period, we offered many unique and immersive experiences to our customers. With over 70 million visitors coming to the centres each year, we are looking forward to creating even more exciting experiences and activities for our customers to enjoy in 2018.”
