Poundland has announced new hires for the trading and finance director roles within its senior team.
Joining the discount retailer in January as trading director will be Tim Bettley, where he will be responsible for Poundland’s trading, stock control and marketing teams.
Bettley has experience in leading large commercial, supply chain and broader business functions in the value and retail sector, most recently at The Original Factory Shop.
His broader experience at Morrisons and as managing director at Peacocks will also be key as Poundland continues to transform itself into a general merchandise, FMCG and clothing business following the completion of its 12 month rollout of Pep&Co fashion concessions to around a third of its stores.
Bettley will report to Poundland UK & Ireland managing director Barry Williams.
Meanwhile, the retailer has appointed Dave Williams to the role of finance director.
Williams joined Poundland after chief financial officer roles at JD Sports, JBB, TJ Hughes and Focus DIY.
He will also take responsibility for Poundland’s property team, led by Ben Wall with the departure of current business development director Andy Garbutt.
“These are two important hires to complete my top team,” Williams said.
“And it’s no coincidence that both have value retail and clothing experience. That’s because we’re building a new Poundland that’s extending our promise of amazing value every day into a broader range of products.
“I’m also pleased to provide Ben with an opportunity to step up – under Andy Garbutt’s leadership Ben has helped deliver a market-leading 60 per cent reduction in property costs.
“I know Ben will continue that drive to ensure landlords better understand the new normal on high street occupancy costs.
“I’d also like to thank Andy for his four years service to Poundland – we’re a business better placed to win on a changing high street, because of his efforts.”
