The retail industry has employed the highest level of women to senior-level jobs on record last year amid growing calls for more female representation in boardrooms.
Nearly a quarter of the 44 retail chief appointments made were female, according to data from search firm Korn Ferry, The Telegraph reports.

Some of the biggest shifts in retail includes former Debenhams trading director Suzanne Harlow becoming the boss of Jack Wills, Oasis and Warehouse director Liz Evans becoming chief executive at Fat Face, and Melinda Pararie moving from the US to take the top job at Cath Kidston.
“Over the past two years there has been increasing pressure on retailers to address this issue, and it’s gratifying to see signs of positive action,” Korn Ferry managing director Sarah Lim told the Telegraph.
The news comes at a unsettling time for some of UK retail’s top leaders facing #MeToo accusations over their conduct such as Ray Kelvin and Sir Philip Green.
Meanwhile, women are the highest spenders in retail, accounting for 85 per cent of the purchases.
About 60 per cent of the 2.8 million retail employees in the UK are also women.
