Fortnum & Mason has unveiled plans to open its first international store in Hong Kong in September.

The heritage retailer said the initiative arised due to international demand for its products, particularly from Hong Kong and China.

Fortnum & Mason will set up a store and restaurant within Victoria Dockside in Hong Kong.

Although the retailer has concessions in South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong, this will be its first standalone store outside of the UK, creating 90 new jobs.

“Expansion in Asia is an important next step for us, as we extend our reach further across the world,” Fortnum & Mason chairman Kate Hobhouse said.

“We have seen significant appetite for the Fortnum’s brand and products in the region, with impressive year-on-year sales growth.

Last year, Fortnum & Mason reported a 12 per cent increase in sales to £126 million, while profits surged 26 per cent to £9.6 million.
