Lidl has confirmed the purchase of a 10,890sq ft site in Belvedere as part of its warehouse expansion plans.

The site will allow the German discount grcoer to develop a 430,556sq ft unit, which will operate alongside its current 312,153sq ft distribution centre, almost doubling its capacity.

“In addition to opening new warehouses, we have a development programme in place to strengthen our existing operations,” Lidl chief development officer Ingo Fischer said.

“This will ensure that we are able to provide continued support to our current store network, whilst putting the infrastructure in place for future growth.

“In the last year we have opened our new distribution centres in Avonmouth and Doncaster, and are at the final stages of construction on our new distribution centre for Scotland.”

The distribution centre currently employs 332 people across a variety of different roles and departments, including logistics, supply chain, property and administration.

The teams provide support to a growing network of 44 stores across the south of London.

The expansion plans will be providing Lidl the capacity to increase its workforce further in the future.

Belvedere is one of 13 Lidl distribution centres operating across England, Scotland and Wales.
