// Like-for-like sales up 1.32%
// Over 250m customers visited retailers within the railway network in 2018/19

The Network Rail has reported a 4.36 per cent growth in full-year retail sales, while annual like-for-like sales went up 1.32 per cent in the period.

The growth is well above the BRC’s figure of 0.05 per cent for the same period.

Over 250 million customers visited retailers within the railway network in its 2018/19 financial year.

The newly-renovated London Bridge station – which houses over 70 shops – has doubled its total sales for the first three months of 2019 compared to the same period last year.

It recorded over £14 million in purchases, while sales for the year grew by over 75 per cent.

These results mark the eighth straight year, and 32nd successive quarter, that like-for-like sales have increased for Network Rail, with retail sales profit being reinvested back into the railway.

“We are delivering a passenger-centric retail offer across our estate and are pleased it continues to be successful despite some tough market conditions,” Network Rail Property managing director David Biggs said.
