Japanese outdoor and leisure brand Snow Peak has chosen London for the site of its UK flagship store.

To be located at St James’s Market – a joint venture between The Crown Estate and Oxford Properties – the London shop will also become Snow Peak’s first ever European store.

Its two other stores in the US – in Portland and New York – as well as 25 in Japan, three in Korea and two in Taiwan.

The new London shop will span 4300sq ft with three storeys, showcasing Snow Peak’s range of outdoor clothing and camping equipment.

The basement will include a space where retail staff can demonstrate products to customers and there will be a tea and coffee bar on the ground floor.

Snow Peak was founded in 1958 by Yukio Yamai and it continues to run by his son Tohru, who has been steering the brand towards global expansion.

“When looking for a flagship store in Europe, we were excited to find such a great retail space in St James’s Market,” Snow Peak’s UK director Kei Saito said.

“Surrounded by specialty stores and restaurants with a quality focus, we are very happy to begin our new chapter of the business here.”
