Emma Mattress has appointed Dr Verena Senn as the head of its Sleep Expert Taskforce, a new in-house research and sleep-science specialist team for the online retailer.

Senn will join Emma Mattress’ growing research and development department, now standing at over 10 personnel, that is dedicated to improving the sleep quality of the bed-in-a-box retailer’s range of items.

Her remit will be to address problems associated with sleep and challenging product designs to incorporate new solutions.

After earning her PhD in neurobiology from the University of Basel, Senn completed her post-doctorate studies at Ernst Struengmann Research Institute and spent nearly 15 years in research on topics for brain and psychological behaviour.

“While we know we should get a quality night’s rest, and for about eight hours per night, progress must also take place to complement the biology of sleep,” she said.

“I look forward to applying the knowledge I’ve accumulated over my career in neurobiology towards revolutionising and modernising the sleep landscape.”

Emma Mattress co-founder Manuel Müller said: “Emma is the result of more than 75 years’ world-leading health and scientific experts combined forces towards unravelling, developing, and promoting innovation in foam mattress sleep technology – and we’re not stopping now.

“The announcement of our Sleep Expert Taskforce signals our continued investment in our locally-made, globally award-winning Original Mattress and accessories range.”
