HMV is set to re-open in a different location in Liverpool after it shut down its Liverpool One store earlier this month.

The music and entertainment retailer said it was now in the process of moving to a new location at the St Johns Shopping Centre, joining more than 100 other retailers within the precinct, from local retailers to national brands like JD Sports and Matalan.

Situated on Williamson Square, the new HMV Liverpool store will span 10,000sq ft and will open on July 20.

HMV had suddenly closed the doors to its Liverpool One site earlier this month, after being temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are delighted to be opening a new store in St Johns this July,” HMV managing director Phil Halliday said.

“There has been an HMV in Liverpool for many decades and we have always enjoyed sharing our enthusiasm for music, film and popular culture with the city’s community.

“As we celebrate our 100th anniversary this year, we are thrilled to be launching an even bigger and better store, and our team are looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming in St Johns’ customers very soon.”

  1. Don’t blame them.
We have one HMV left in East Kent Canterbury which I would not be surprised relocates to a cheaper location given there are so many empty stores now.

Rents are too much as are business rates. It says something when the only stores opening are Job Centres in former prime units like the ex Curry’s Digital in Canterbury soon to be a Job Centre Plus.
