Asda has launched a £1 engagement ring as part of its George Home collection, which is available to buy in stores and online.
The Big 4 grocer is selling the silver-coloured band with an imitation diamond jewel for shoppers on a budget.
The ring comes in a red, heart-shaped box as a gift in time for Valentine’s Day on February 14.

The George Home Valentine’s Engagement Ring’s description reads: “Share some love with this ring.
“With matching heart box.”
Shoppers took to Twitter to express their mixed opinions. Some approved of the budget option, while others felt it was a joke.

💯💯💯That’s supposed to be the point behind them, it’s meaningful. Asda legit have said “here is an affordable engagement ring in time for valentines” and people are being so classist about it. Weddings and engagement rings should have affordable alternatives.

Asda’s initiative comes after Poundland grabbed headlines in recent years for selling a £1 engagement ring called “Bling Ring”.
On February 14, 2020, Poundland said it sold around 40,000 engagement rings, almost double 2019’s numbers.
Poundland responded to Asda’s engagement ring on Twitter by hinting that the launch was inspired by its own “Bling Ring” collection.
Hi @asda👋What do they say about imitation and flattery? Nothing says "I❤️You" like the original £1 #Poundland Bling Ring💍. Available in our stores nationwide #KnockOffLove https://t.co/emErtglKiu
