// Vagabond Shoemakers is stepping into clothing for the first time with the launch of a leather jacket
// The jacket was designed by Vagabond’s in-house team and handcrafted in Portugal
Swedish footwear brand Vagabond is venturing into clothing by launching a limited-edition women’s leather jacket.
In a statement, the retailer said it is expanding its repertoire by creating an “ultimate companion” to its boots by using its many years of expertise in working with leather.
The jacket was designed by Vagabond’s in-house team then handcrafted in Portugal in a limited number.
The Varberg-based brand described its first apparel product as being “full of the typical Vagabond DNA – timeless but still with that raw edge and oversized silhouette, made to be worn again and again”.
The jacket is now available to purchase via Vagabond’s website and at selected retailer’s across the world at a price of £550.
Vagabond Shoemakers creative director and co-founder Marie Nilsson Peterzén said: “When developing the jacket, it was a given that we would work in leather. Since this is a material that we have been using for decades and eventually have become experts at, it felt like the natural step to create a leather jacket.”
When asked if the brand had plans to launch more apparel items, or an entire collection, in the future, Peterzén said: “We are always keen on presenting new ideas, either within our Atelier by Vagabond concept or, as in this case a completely new product.
“Let’s see what comes out of it. So far, we are happy to see that there is a huge interest from the market.”
Vagabond is currently sold in retailers across approximately 45 markets. In the UK, the brand works with around 20 retailers and has 50 points of sale.
