Asda has hired ex-Reiss director Karl Doyle as vice president of George to replace Zoe Matthews, who has decided to step down from the business.

Doyle was executive group commercial director at Reiss until October last year and will join George, the UK’s second largest fashion brand by volume, on 1 March.

He will report into new George at Asda managing director Liz Evans, who joined the grocer in January from Fat Face, where she was chief executive.

Matthews, who was vice president of George product, opted to exit the business as she did not want to take on the new George vice president role that Evans has introduced as part of her new business structure, according to an internal memo seen by Retail Gazette.

Evans wrote to her team at George: “Since she joined us four years ago, Zoe has made a fantastic contribution to our business and has really moved the George brand forward. She obviously goes with our very best wishes for the future and my personal thanks for everything she has done to welcome me and help me settle in.”

Matthews was previously fashion director at The Very Group and was buying director at Gap’s European businesss prior to that.

Doyle has more than 25 years experience in fashion retail and has worked for businesses including Next, Marks & Spencer, The Very Group and Mothercare.
