Football fans are set to drive £225.1 million retail spend ahead of tonight’s England versus Wales World Cup group stage game.

With the tournament held during the winter and rising costs amid the cost-of-living crisis, more Brits are set to watch the match from home in favour of going to pubs.

The VoucherCodes.co.uk World Cup 2022 Spending Report estimates food and drink sales is projected to reach £140.7 million during tonight’s fixture.

Fans are also set to spend £50 million on TV electricals and £26.8 million on sportswear, the report said.

Meanwhile, hospitality spend could reach £43.1 million tonight.

Across the group stages, the report forecasts £1.2 billion will be spent across both retail and hospitality.

Many retailers such as Tesco, Iceland and M&S, are battling it out to win World Cup spend offering lots of deals on products.

Some grocers are also incorporating the World Cup into their Christmas marketing. In Aldi’s Christmas advert, Kevin the Carrot is seen watching the football tournament.
