Asda has opened its 100th On the Move location as it plans to double the convenience store’s estate by the end of the year.

The new store on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough is located on a EG Group forecourt and stocks up to 2,500 own-brand and branded products.

The latest addition marks the retailer’s 35th convenience store to open on an EG Group forecourt this year as part of its plans to launch a further 100 branches this year.

Asda’s owners, the Issa brothers, also own EG Group.

Asda senior wholesale and convenience director James Laws said: “The opening of the 100th Asda On The Move store is a milestone in our convenience journey to bring Asda’s great products to more customers through our partnership with EG Group.

“The popularity of these stores shows us customers want to be able to pick up essential products or grab a spontaneous treat whilst they’re refuelling.

“We look forward to providing that service to customers in even more locations as we expand the number of Asda On The Move sites in the future.’’

The grocer has steadily been expanding its convenience store concepts, On The Move and Express, with plans to roll out 300 more Express stores by the end of 2026.
