David’s Bridal has collapsed into administration hours after its American owner filed for bankruptcy.

The wedding dress specialist has appointed Andy Pear and Milan Vuceljic of Moorfields Advisory to handle the process.

The retailer’s UK operation will continue to trade as normal whilst administrators conduct a stock liquidation through its stores.

David’s Bridal employs more than 150 people in the UK and has flagships in Birmingham, Glasgow, London and Watford.

On Monday, its US parent arm filed for bankruptcy following the announcement it would cut 9,000 roles from its workforce. It has also launched a similar process in Canada.

The bridal specialist said it will “continue exploring a sale of all or some of its assets”.

Pear said: “Like many retailers David’s Bridal has faced challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertain economic conditions.

“We are working with our U.S. counterparties to help deliver all current orders to customers and customers should contact their store with any questions.”
