Currys teams up with Samsung for trade-in initiative

Currys has partnered with Samsung UK to offer customers discounts on select products when they trade-in their unwanted tech.

For the month of July, the electricals retailer is offering shoppers between 10 to 15% off over 390 of the brand’s products.

Customers will be able to redeem the vouchers online or in any of Currys’ 285 stores, as well as its Mobiles and Carphone Warehouse sites.

The initiative builds on the retailer’s existing ‘Cash for Trash’ scheme, which guarantees customers a £5 voucher when they bring in old tech to a store.

The items are then either refurbished and re-sold as pre-loved, harvested for parts to repair other products or broken down and recycled.

Currys chief commercial officer Ed Connolly said: “By working together with Samsung, we have been able to pass on great savings to customers, whilst also encouraging more sustainable behaviours.

“At Currys we help everyone enjoy amazing technology, and we are uniquely positioned to help do this in an environmentally responsible way.

“By working with Samsung on a campaign that provides a further financial incentive for customers to take their e-waste into stores, we’re doing just that, and can’t wait to see the results.”

The electricals retailer revealed last week it had plunged to a pre-tax loss of £450m, dragged down by poor performance in its international arm.

However, its UK and Ireland business posted an adjusted EBIT increase of 45% to £170m thanks to the focus on more profitable sales, price increases and cost efficiencies in the supply chain.
