Visiting Aldi’s Portobello store has been listed among the city’s ‘Things To Do’ on Tripadvisor, for tourists pouring into the area for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Aldi said the branch has become one of only a handful of grocery stores in Scotland to feature as an attraction on the platform, putting it alongside more traditional Edinburgh visitor destinations ahead of this summer’s Fringe.

Aldi is positioning the Portobello store as an “authentic Scottish food experience”, with hundreds of locally sourced products available across its shelves.

It pointed to its performance in the National Farmers Union’s 2026 supermarket shelf study, which found an average of 65 per cent of Aldi’s own-label products surveyed in Scotland were Scottish in origin.

Its range includes products from suppliers such as Equi’s ice cream, Angus Soft Fruits and Brownings the Bakers.

Aldi Scotland buying director Alan Leslie said: “The Edinburgh Fringe welcomes millions of visitors from around the world each year, and for many, trying Scotland’s fantastic food and drink is an essential part of the experience.

“We’re proud to work with so many Scottish suppliers to bring high-quality local produce to our shelves, so it’s fantastic that our Portobello store has been listed as somewhere visitors can enjoy an authentic taste of Scotland.”

He added that the retailer was looking forward to welcoming visitors whether they were sampling local produce, picking up food before a show or collecting one of its Fringe postcards.

Aldi Scotland said it continues to invest millions of pounds in the country’s food and drink industry each year through its relationships with local suppliers.
