Retailers gear up for sales surge ahead of women’s World Cup final

Retailers across the UK including Boohoo, Waitrose and Ocado are set to enjoy a boost in sales as football fans prepare for the Women’s Fifa World Cup final this weekend.

Analysis by Boohoo reveals that searches for ‘Lionesses kit’ soared 3,981% above the average volume in the last 90 days as England prepares to go head-to-head against Spain on Sunday.

According to Google Trends data, this is an increase of over 40 times compared to average volumes over the last 90 days.

Searches for ‘Lioness shirt’ and ‘England shirt’ have also seen rises of 3,617% and 2,220%, respectively, over the last 90 days.

Waitrose reported a 54% increase in people searching for ‘brunch’ on Waitrose.com as football fans look to stock up on items such as bacon, eggs, sausages and English sparkling wine ahead of England’s clash against Spain.

John Lewis has seen sales of TVs climb by 25% while also recording a 115% increase in sales of children’s football boots as fans prepare for the Women’s Fifa World Cup final.

Ocado analysed customer baskets due for delivery before the final and found that 153% more customers had added fizz to their deliveries since Wednesday’s semi-final win against Australia, when compared against average uptake.
