Amazon to sell cars from next year

Amazon is to start selling cars online from next year as it sets it sights on becoming the “everything store”.

Customers in the US will be able to shop for, equip and buy the vehicle before scheduling a delivery through a local dealership.

Amazon said the online selection will initially be limited to Hyundai cars, which will launch from the “latter part of 2024”.

The roll out is an expansion of a deal announced two years ago to expand Hyundai’s digital showroom on the online giant’s website, which the companies launched in 2018.

As part of the deal, Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant will be integrated into new Hyundai vehicles from 2025.

The online retail giant made headlines on Thursday after it was revealed that the business would start “blocking promotions” for staff who did not comply with its back-to-the-office policy.
