Decathlon expands BuyBack service to include all sports equipment

Decathlon has expanded its BuyBack scheme to include all sports equipment following the success of its initial launch on unwanted bicycles.

The initiative has been rolled out across fitness equipment, racket sports, camping gear and water sport items, such as kayaks and paddle boards.

To access the scheme, customers are asked to complete a quick online assessment to register the return of their unwanted product before dropping it off in any Decathlon store nationwide to receive a voucher of up to 40% of the valued item.

The sports retailer will then refurbish and resell the product to give it a second life.

As part of the service, customers can also get sports kits repaired in-store using genuine parts from Decathlon’s extensive inventory of over 5,000 spare parts.

The BuyBack service forms part of the retailer’s sustainability push to provide a greater circular economy for all its products and follows the launch of its rental initiative last year.

The retailer’s UK sustainability leader Chris Allen said: “At Decathlon we’re all about driving participation in sport and we want to encourage this in the most sustainable way possible.

“BuyBack allows people to realise value from older or unused kit and exchange it for new or refurbished products. With the cost of living still having a huge impact on our customers, we are determined to ensure people are ready to play this summer, whatever the weather.”
