Zara to expand presence at Birmingham’s Bullring & Grand Central

Zara is set to “significantly upsize” its Bullring & Grand Central store as the fashion giant looks to elevate its presence in the West Midlands.

In a move that completes the repurposing of the former Debenhams, Zara is taking the top floor above M&S alongside an adjacent two-storey unit on Bullring’s upper level – creating over 51,000 sq ft of shopping space.

The two new stores will feature the fashion retailer’s full range of womenswear, menswear and childrenswear, alongside an ‘Automated Collection Point’, self-service and dedicated refund tills to deliver a seamless customer experience.

The renewed commitment follows the opening of Inditex brands Bershka and Pull&Bear – in a regional first – at Bullring last year.

Zara will be joined by Swiss watchmakers, Swatch as well as global footwear brand, Clarks and independent retail brand Pop Street.

Hammerson Director of Asset Management Toby Tait said: “The strategic repositioning of Bullring & Grand Central has seen us introduce key brands, new concepts and events to the destination. As a result, we have driven footfall and sales for our occupiers year-on-year and continue to attract best-in-class brands partners.

“Zara’s reinvestment alongside exciting new concept stores from Swatch and Clarks demonstrates the appeal of Bullring and endorses the success of our strategic focus.”

At the start of the year, Zara said it would significantly expand its flagship store at Liverpool ONE which will open later this year.

Its store on South John Street will be undertaking a “substantial refurbishment and expansion”, covering 42,000 sq ft, up from 27,000 sq ft, to allow for an increased offer of menswear, womenswear and kids wear.

The revamp will also include new in-store technologies, such as self-service areas and online order collection points.
