Matalan marketing director Charlotte Dewhurst has left the fashion retailer after 15 months in the role.

Dewhurst, who joined in April last year, had been responsible for leading a team of 70 employees amid its ongoing transformation, Drapers reported.

Prior to Matalan, Dewhurst has held several marketing roles during her 20-year career at retailers including Reebok, Morrisons, Argos, Nando’s, ClearScore and Les Mills.

A spokesperson for the retailer confirmed Dewhurst’s departure, adding: “We are grateful for everything Charlotte brought to our team and wish her all the best for what’s next.”

Her exit comes as Matalan reported an uplift in underlying profitability last month, as EBITDA rose 6% to £56m in the year to 22 February driven by improved gross margin and tight cost control.

However, sales fell 9% to £985m which it said reflected a challenging consumer backdrop and competitive market.

Matalan is set to upgrade 30 stores and open 10 new or relocated sited this year as part of a £25m investment into its store portfolio.
