Asda is pumping £1m into store upgrades across Yorkshire and nearby regions as part of its wider strategy to modernise its estate and enhance the in-store experience.
Marking Yorkshire Day and its 60th anniversary, the supermarket giant revealed it will spend £7.2m upgrading five stores in the county—Kingswood, Harrogate, York, Pudsey and Keighley—by the end of the year.
A further £4.6m will go towards refurbishing its Grimsby and Stockton sites, with plans to extend the investment programme to more UK locations next year.
Each site will undergo a full shop floor refurbishment, including simpler layouts, new feature lighting and neon signage. Work is set to begin in September and take around seven weeks per store. All sites will remain open during the revamps.
Asda chief commercial officer for retail and non-food Liz Evans said: “We’re proud to continue investing in the communities we serve – especially in Yorkshire, where our story began 60 years ago.
“Following the successful refurbishment of our Pilsworth store earlier this year, we’re pleased to share our plans to modernise these Yorkshire stores and further enhance the shopping experience.”
The move follows the £2m revamp of its Pilsworth store in Bury, which reopened in March to positive customer feedback.
