DIY chain Screwfix has hit 1,000 stores across the UK, Ireland and France.

The business, which opened its first store in Yeovil in 2005, has launched an average of one store per week for the last decade, whilst also growing internationally.

In 2019, Screwfix opened its first stores in the Republic of Ireland and has since opened more than 40 stores, creating nearly 500 jobs.

While in 2022, the retailer expanded into France, opening a distribution centre and its first stores, which now total 35.

Additionally, in 2024 Screwfix opened its ultra-compact format, Screwfix City, designed to offer greater convenience for busy tradespeople in city centres.

Screwfix CEO John Mewett said: “We’re delighted to have opened our 1,000th Screwfix store.

“Since our first opening in 2005, we’ve continued to provide the ultimate convenience for tradespeople and build on our success in the UK to expand into the Republic of Ireland and France.”

The brand is now aiming to open over 1,000 stores in the UK and Ireland, with the potential for up to 600 stores in France.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to all our Screwfix and Kingfisher colleagues who have been instrumental in achieving this amazing milestone.”
