Asda has expanded its Rewards app into fuel for the first time, as it looks to give shoppers more reasons to consolidate their spending.
Customers who spend £40 or more in a single in-store transaction before 31 July will receive a coupon offering 5p off every litre of fuel.
The voucher will be added automatically to the shopper’s Asda Rewards app after completing an eligible purchase and can be used against one fuel transaction until 7 August.
Customers can redeem the offer by scanning their Rewards barcode and fuel coupon at the pump or kiosk.
Asda said a motorist filling a 60-litre family car could save up to £3 through the promotion, which is available at 321 Asda supermarkets and Express sites selling Asda-branded fuel.
Chief customer officer Rachel Eyre said: “We’re making Asda Rewards even more rewarding. Asda is more than just a supermarket and we’re always looking for new ways to help families save on top of our low prices.
“Through our new Grocery and Fuel Bonus, customers can now unlock savings on fuel alongside their weekly shop, another step in our plans to keep growing Asda Rewards and give our customers even more value every time they shop with us.”
The announcement broadens the role of Asda Rewards beyond grocery shopping and gives the retailer another way to encourage customers to spend across its wider estate.
It comes as Asda continues efforts to rebuild sales momentum under its turnaround strategy.
The supermarket reported a 0.8 per cent increase in like-for-like sales during its first quarter, reversing some of the decline seen in the previous three-month period, when sales fell 4.2 per cent.
