Ted Baker is reportedly preparing to reopen standalone stores in the UK as the fashion brand steps up its return to physical retail.

It is expected to open its first new standalone shop later this year, with owner Authentic Brands Group indicating that the launch will take place “very soon”. A location has not yet been disclosed.

Ted Baker recently opened a boutique inside Selfridges Birmingham at the Bullring, offering a curated range of occasionwear, accessories and lifestyle products.

It followed the launch of a similar concession at Selfridges in Manchester’s Trafford Centre in May.

The Birmingham opening was particularly significant for Ted Baker, as its former standalone Bullring branch was among the first stores to close when the business ran into difficulties in 2024.

Ted Baker’s UK store operator, No Ordinary Designer Label, entered administration in March that year.

All 46 of the fashion chain’s UK stores had closed by August, ending its 36-year presence on the high street and resulting in hundreds of job losses. Reuters reported that Authentic Brands Group was searching for a new operating partner following the collapse.

The retailer relaunched its UK website in November 2024, selling menswear, womenswear and accessories, before beginning its gradual return to physical retail.

Founded in Glasgow in 1988, Ted Baker grew into one of Britain’s best-known fashion brands and had around 550 shops and concessions globally at its peak.

Its planned standalone comeback comes amid a wider revival of nostalgic fashion names on the high street.

Topshop has returned through its partnership with John Lewis, while Gap has rebuilt its UK store estate after previously switching to a digital-first model.
