Dreams has recycled more than 1.3 million mattresses through its take-back scheme since 2015, diverting more than 42,000 tonnes of material from landfill.

Dreams’ take-back service allows customers to have their old bed and mattress collected when a new one is delivered. The mattresses are then taken to Circom’s specialist facility, where they are broken down and materials including steel, foam and polyester are recovered for reuse.

Dreams and its recycling partner Circom have processed 1,306,414 mattresses since September 2015, which, laid end-to-end, the mattresses would stretch around 1,533 miles, or almost twice the length of mainland Britain.

The bed retailer has highlighted the milestone during National Recycling Week as part of its wider Upgrade Your Sleep campaign, encouraging customers to reconsider how they dispose of their old mattress when buying a replacement.

The retailer said disposing of old mattresses remains a challenge for consumers. Its 2026 Sleep Survey found that only 38% of UK adults take their old mattress to a tip, while figures from the National Bed Federation show that just 33% of mattresses disposed of in 2023 were genuinely recycled.

Dreams chief commercial officer Dan Parson said: “Buying a new mattress isn’t something we do very often, but when the time comes, it’s an important investment in the quality of our sleep.

“At Dreams, we want to take the hassle out of recycling by making it easy for customers to have their old mattress collected when the new one arrives. Through our recycling programme, we can keep all materials out of landfill
